A Message From The President - Jose Enriquez, Jr.

Dear Colleagues,

As President of the Dade Association of School Administrators, I am looking forward to serving you over the next two years. It is my commitment to you and all of our members to continue:

• Promoting a spirit of professionalism among all administrators;

• Advancing public education by providing organized and unified efforts to resolve matters concerning administrators;

• Improving standards of cooperation with other professional organizations on educational matters.

• Providing opportunities for cooperative study of various issues common to education;

• To lend assistance concerning general and specific problems through publications, networking, direct assistance to members, meetings, and varied in-service and social activities;

• To foster the management team concept and promote the personal and professional welfare of administrators in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

My goal is to specifically identify additional means of leadership recognition, professional development, and using the most modern forms of communication such as Linked-In, YouTube and Facebook to improve communication among administrators. I also want to explore additional ideas on how we can attract our retired population of administrators to join our ranks. District, Region and school administrators in Miami-Dade County Public Schools are among the best in the United States and together we will prosper. The DASA organization will always work towards bringing the very best administrators together to improve teaching and learning across the district. DASA is a professional organization dedicated to meeting the professional needs of Managerial Exempt Personnel (MEP). Our organization also serves as a liaison between MEP employees and the District on matters such as salary and working conditions. Several events are held throughout the year to recognize and celebrate great leadership and to provide a means for administrators across the district to meet and greet. The annual Holiday Reception is planned for a date to be determined in November while the annual Recognition and Retirement Ceremony will be held in April. Our most popular and marquee event takes place every summer when we all head to the West coast of Florida for our annual Summer Institute. The DASA Board meets every other month while the Executive Officers meet each month prior to the Board Meetings to discuss and decide upon the direction of the DASA organization. In addition, there are several opportunities for all district administrators to meet with the Superintendent through the “Dialogue with the Superintendent” meetings, that are scheduled throughout the school year. It is a great honor to serve as the President of the Dade Association of School Administrators. I have been a member since 1996 and four years later I was elected to the Board to represent the Middle School Assistant Principals. I was later elected to serve as the Vice President for Publications and today I am still going strong in my commitment to help the DASA organization support all school administrators in our District. I am encouraging all administrators to become more involved in DASA and to communicate with us in regards to any special needs or support that you may have. DASA has always served as an important role for administrators in the past, and I will always do my best to make sure that this process continues.
